As a hobbiest in louisiana there are few wood dealears other
than the BORG that sell to the hobbiest without whining and
bellyaching. I have access to a millwork shop just outside of baton
rouge. I am considering selling hardwoods/ softwoods. I have access
to many exotis such as mahogony, spanish cedar and the like as well as
a constant supply of the common oaks (red and white), cypress,
hickory/pecan as well as many other common woods from the area. I am
not attempting to cater to commercial interests but to hobbiests such
as myself. This would be a part time venture for me and would operate
on the weekends, hopefully at below BORG prices with enough profit to
subsdise my hobby. IF SUFFICENT INTEREST i will consider mail order
as well. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF ANY INTERST,

Actually, I travel I-10 between TX and FL a couple of times a year. I
would love to bring a trailer along and pick up some decently priced
hardwood on the way back to TX.

If you do come up you need to check out Timber Woodworking in Mesa. Lot's
of used/consignment machines as well as new plus they have a lumber section
(I've never been in it so don't know the quality or pricing)
There's a certain drool factor at this place! I'm glad it's not closer to
me! :-)

Thanks. Given what I'm finding down here, I may have to make the trip to
Phoenix. We have a Woodworkers' Source down here also, but I've found them
to be outrageously expensive for their wood prices. May have to check
again though.

Not close to there, but wishing you good luck with your effort. I'd love
to see if something like that could get started here in Tucson. I have
been having a terrible time getting good cherry from my regular supplier.
It's all sapwood and warped and wained. It would be great if a bunch of us
could somehow get together and get a good deal on a shipment on good FAS
cherry or other wood in a quantity sufficient to get a good freight rate.

For those who have responded so far, I am going to just mark up enough
to pay for my wood and supplies, I don't intend to become Howard
Hughes doing this its just a component to our hobbies. I am very
selective as to the quality of the wood I am going to sell, its
apparently there is enough interest to pursue. For those interested I
will work with individuals to ship UPS/USPS etc to supply and unlike
many I will charge only the actual costs of shipping. I am going to
work on a web page so I will keep updates. Feel free to email me so I
an begin to compile a customer list as well as a "wish" list.
Merry Christmas1

Spellman Hardwood here in Phoenix seems to have a decent selection of
cherry. My local Woodworker's Resource and Rockler, however, has what you
describe. American Hardwoods usually has a good selection as well. I don't
know if it's worth the drive up to check them out, though.
