I just received the Harbor Freight Belt/disc sander yesterday and for
$229 and free shipping it is pretty damned good. I has a 12" disc and a
6X48 belt. The tracking was perfect right out of the box and seems to
have plenty of power. It will do quite nicely for my needs.

One thing you might think about with Amazon is "when" they will ship
it. I had a PM66 table saw on order for about two months. They kept
delaying the ship date. Finally I ordered it from AI (or A&I) Tool.
They shipped in the next day, same price, same free shipping. They
told me Amazon waits until they have a truckload to move anything.
That's ok with books, not so good with table saws.
I ordered a Record 53ED vise from Amazon only to be told 2 weeks later that
they couldn't locate one. Damn, no free shipping. The day I got that email
notice, Amazon noted on their page of Record quick release wood vises that
they were all discontinued or not stocked. Luckily I just recieved my 53ED
today from Japan Woodworker for $5.50 shipping. JW did a good job packing it
and the handle was still slightly bent. I think Record should start crating
and then boxing these vises. It sucks to get such a beautiful vise and be
almost certain that the handle will be bent from being dropped on the heavy end
by numnuts.
I've had my Jet TS for about 4 years so things may have changed but...
I ordered from Amazon specifically because I had no way to transport a
saw home from the Borg. Shipping was free and it was a freight co. as
I recall. Nobody is home during the day and one day a note on the
door said they tried to deliver it. When I called the terminal to
inform them of this they asked if I could pick it up. I explained
that was why I ordered one so it would be "delivered". There was a
long pause and then we discussed where it could go so as to be secure
when nobody was home.
The next day the saw was delivered to my open garage, the driver
placed the saw inside, closed the door as instructed, voila, my saw
was exactly where I wanted it. Once they get the saw to your house
let Amazon and the shipper worry about how to get off the truck. I'll
bet the last thing they want to do at that point is loose the sale AND
eat the cost of return shipping this thing.
That at least was my experience.

I read about a website called ToolSeeker.com in one of my many woodworking
magazines. http://www.toolseeker.com They have a good number of tool brands
and models listed there and it works for tools like MySimon works for other
merchandise. I don't know if they list that one but you might want to take a
look.

Tool crib is hit and miss on pricing and in my experience can be excellent
but you do need to shop around because it isn't always the rule. Check out
availability on that sanding station though. I had one (I think that same
model) on back order at a local supplier from late October to the first of
the year and ended up cancelling the order and getting a comparable Grizzly.

But wait! Woodworker.com has the same offer for shipping. Seems
like the same thing, right? Not really. Amazon.com will ship it to
you by motor freight and you have to be able to get it off of the
truck yourself. Woodworker.com will ship it to your curb (you don't
have to get it off the truck). I don't know about you, but given the
weight of the saw there is no way _I_ can get that thing off the truck
myself. So, watch the shipping. Amazon.com is great for the small
stuff. But lousy with the big stuff.

In a similar vein, if you forgo the free shipping and elect to pay for
it, FedEx delivers it and they'll also take it off the truck and put
it anywhere you want. For my 500 lb planer, it only cost $10. It came
it 3 days too!
On the other hand, the free shipping is delivered by a freight company
and it cost me an extra $80 to arrange for liftgate delivery of my
jointer. This was one occurance where "free" was not a good deal.

Grab a couple 10' 2x8s and put them in the back of your truck.
Back it up to the tall truck bed, line up the boards, and slide
your store-bought booty down into your truck bed. Drive away,
letting the boards drop to the bed. Now reverse the procedure
to get it onto the driveway or directly into the garH^H^Hshop.
Or just buy from Griz and specify residential delivery. My
shipments have come by liftgated truck no matter what
line they come on. (Oak Harbor Freight and FEDex Freight)
