That would be a novelty.

Hehehe I've only got bifocals, but I think I've got that problem
solved. I don't figure on doing target shooting anymore, just for fun.
But, I've found a nice little bolt-action single shot .22 I like, and
I'll probably wind up getting it. And, if I do, I figure on putting a
honkin' big scope on it. Tha'd be a great squirrel rifle. But, as I
don't hunt anymore either, need to find somewhere I can just plink at
cans - at a hundred, or two hundred, yards. preferably. If closer, just
have to use smaller targets. Necco candies maybe. Any place around
Raleigh?

Oh yeah, Barney Doom! That was fun. :)
It's OK, Tom, some day Barney will go the way of Pee Wee Herman, when they
catch him slapping Mr. Spankey in a porno theater. Sooner or later.

We used to shoot at an indoor range in the winter. Fifty feet. All
positions. With sling and without.
I miss the smell the most.
Burnt powder and Hoppes #9 (smelled better than Chanel #5 to me -
still does).
Now most of the gun clubs have been turned into swim and tennis clubs.

Tom,
Just paid my 2004 dues to a local Club I've belonged to for years. Indoor,
50-foot, 10 firing points.
While they don't shoot 'Competitive' matches any more {Turning target system
broke, a lot of the old shooters retired, etc}, recently they have expanded
the backstop 'downwards' so .22 shooters can go '3-Position'.
I have the combination, it's open 24/7, and just let me know WHEN you'd like
to go.
"Smell the powder" is one of Joanne's FAVORITE phrases. A couple of years
ago I got her a 12-pound canister of 700X powder {for shotgun shells}. . .
just what she WANTED !!

For a couple of summers I taught Rifle Marksmanship at a local Day Camp. I'm
talking about the REAL thing, too. Standard NRA 50 foot targets at 50 feet,
and the techniques of sight picture, breath control, & trigger squeeze . . .
even though the kids were between 6 and 15 {actually, it was the 10 & 11
year olds that concentrated the best}. It was BB guns & Air Rifles for the
'little ones', and .22 for the older kids.
Anyhow, after 6 weeks of REAL targets & training, I set up a 'shooting
gallery' presentation for the last two weeks; swing targets, breakable
targets, a 'set' of the 5 ranks of Silhouette targets {made from Homosote on
a wood base}out as far as 95 feet, and 'Barney' targets - as a joke.
I wasn't sure how the 'Barney's' would go over . . . maybe effect the
younger ones ? {they could be knocked down by BB's at the 15 foot range}.
Have you ever heard a bunch of 7 to 10 year old kids chanting, "Lets Kill
Barney !!, Lets Kill Barney !!, etc." ?

If you sat through more than one Barney with a few 3-4-5 year olds, you'd add
to the chant!

PS: Just drop me a note - direct - when you are ready. If it's not too cold
& snowy, we could ALL go out for some Trap shooting. It's been so long, we'd
probably start 'even' !!

The BFG really made the Purple One splatter.
Very satisfactory.

Had the same problem. Probably just as well that we went broke before she
had a chance to embarass me in front of my son by out-shooting me. :)

I didn't check out JOAT's page, because I'm reading offline at the moment,
but speaking of shooting Barney in the crotch... Somewhere out there in
cyberspace is a web site that has all kinds of official NRA targets you can
print. One of them is Barney. My boy and I have have had one hell of a
lot of fun shooting Barney in the head and crotch with BBs and pellets. :)
(Well, until my daughter came out, saw what we were doing, and broke into
tears. "Barney is my FWEND! WHY ARE YOU SHOOTING MY FWEND????" Then I
felt pretty bad. Oops. Bad Daddy, as SWMBO said.)

We still have a range hereabouts, but I had to sell all my guns to fund
Christmas a few years ago.
I still have a jar of Hoppes #9. I guess I should get rid of it. By the
time I can afford to get another gun, it will be illegal to own one anyway.

This kind of problem is easily fixed. Buy a new rifle/shotgun that she
will have difficulty firing. What an excuse to buy a new toy.
