Craftsman TS belt tension increases w/blade height

Greetings,

I just got a "bargain" ;-( TS, model 113.299040 and am trying to figure
out what causes the belt tension to increase to the point of binding when
raising the blade. V-belt is the correct 1/2X41 belt, and a cursory exam
doesn't reveal anything busted. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Can't find out about this model at Sears.com, I wonder if the motor's mounted
on pivots, to use the weight of the motor to keep tension, and the pivots are
bad?Tom

Maybe some pivots are bad? Can't find anything on this saw at Sears.com.

The part of motor holder that bolts to the motor pivots on a
hinge and there is a slotted part on the side that has a
bolt through it to reduce vibration. If the correct washer
is not used or the bolt is two tight, you will experience
the condition you described. This bolt is meant only two
reduce vibration so it shouldn't be real tight, in fact it
isn't really needed.

The other possibility is that motor holder is adjusted out
so far so that there is no room for the motor to swing on
the hinge. If that is the case, loosen the two bolt that
hold the long rods of the motor holder and slide the
assembly toward the saw so that the motor hangs lower.

Yea, see if there is a slotted hole, like on a car alternator. The bolt
could be too tight.
Should be back where the motor pivots. Loosen it up a bit.
