compatable finishes?

I put a couple coats of boiled linseed oil and turpentine mixture on
my maple bench top. Afterwards I saw a different mixture using some
oil based poly, mineral spirits and linseed oil. I know that you can
use poly over the oil,but what about mineral spirits over turpentine?.
I don't want a real shiny finish, but thought poly thinned would soak
in pretty good and give a slight shine. Any thoughts?(about this:)

turps/mineral spirits: no problem.

poly/linseed: no problem

linseed/poly: might have penetration problems.
could be a maintenance issue down the road. or not....
