Lately I found myself to be an unemployed graphic designer for the tshirt
industry but I've been a woodworker for almost 20 years. A week later, I
landed a job in a large shop/small factory here in North Idyho making
particle board furniture for motels, ie Motel 6, Stuper 8, etc. Having 14
years on compooter, they immediately put me on a HUGE (could handle up to
12'x12' panels if there were such a thing) computerized Holz-Her beam saw.
MAN IS IT FUN!!! I almost feel guilty being paid to run the thing... almost.
Yeah, it's more physical than sitting at the puter drawring designs to print
on tshirts but I'm getting used to it. And the smell of sawdust 8 hours a
day has its own rewards. The saw is hooked up to a 480 volt, 3 phase dust
sucker that also removes dust from the CNC router and the edge bander. Ok,
so it's not my normal woodworkin preference, being a hardwood fan, but
another perk is I get to bring home anything that gets thrown away... mainly
melamine-laminated particle board. Again, not my normal thing but I figger
I'll find uses for it.
So, if there is such a thing as a job gloat, here it is. Goin to nurse my
achin feet now.

Way I figure, anytime you go from unemployed to employed, it's a
major gloat.

If you're offered free wood, take it, period; figure out what to use it
for later.

I agree on the free wood thing, to a degree... I work outta my undersized 2
car garage so my storage is limited. Oh to have a couple acres with a 30x60
shop...

Ten days and counting! Of course, the shop is only 25 x 48, but what the hell.
I'll be cleaning out a decent sized area (about 14 x 15) of a shed to use for
wood storage in addition to the shop area. And the lot is actually a few SF shy
of 2 acres.
