Several weeks ago I posted about bad service at Paxton in Kansas City.
Today, I had an excellent service experience there and I wanted to share it.
I selected a large piece of bubinga. It said 11.5 board feet. I have no
idea what that looks like so I just accepted that this piece would be over
$100. I was fine with that as this was an extraordinary piece. The person
serving me told me he wanted to check because it didn't look like 11.5 board
feet to him. He measured and it came out to 6.5 board feet. At
approximately $10 per board foot, he saved me about $50 and I didn't even
ask for it.
That was great service.
Thank you!
Rob
Rob,
I'd bet money you got the other end of a bubinga board I purchased there a
few months ago. I only needed about a 5 or 6 foot length from it and they'll
always sell you a chunk of a board and do the cuts right away (and free).
They've always been an honest, customer friendly place. I was in there last
month for the "wood of the month" sale on cocobolo. Priced around $11 or $12
a board foot (about half of normal). I bought a bunch of 8/4 lumber out of
the sale bin for a special project (been buying cocobolo bit by bit for 10
years for this). Found out later from the manager that the 8/4 wasn't
supposed to be on sale, but they honored the price (saving me a couple
hundred dollars probably). Paxton's always seems to have the best selection
around these parts - that's where I usually start looking for my lumber.

I do in theory but it's not something I practice with regularity...
I believe you missed the intent of the post.
Yes, I do know how to calculate it and I will going forward to prevent a
mistake from happening.
My point was, I didn't catch it, but they did. And they didn't have to.
Great service!

1. Glad things got better!
2. Good for you to give them another chance at your business. Hope that some
of the responses you received here helped influence your decision. Paxton's
a nice place to do business here...
