Got an unexpected 500 clams today, so as well as getting my new router, I
find myself in the position of shopping for a 6" jointer as well. Woohoo!!!
I had been looking at the Griz 1182 ZX and was pretty much set on it for
$425.00 plus $58.00 shipping, but now I see Amazon has the Delta 37-275X for
$579.00 with free shipping, plus they throw in a base, or router (PC690LR)
or a brad nailer or cordless drill. I was going to get the Hitachi M12V
router for a table setup, and it was recommended by several wreckers to get
another smaller router for other activities. The PC 690 was actually
mentioned. It seems that the Delta and Griz are pretty much on a level
field dollar wise with the free shipping. I did kind of like the handwheel
option on the Griz. If I think about that too much though the Jet comes
into play. Any thoughts on how to spend my newfound loot?
Cheers,
Paul
I have spent 8 years trying to kill the PC 690 (not on purpose of course but
I have put it through hell)...if they still make them the same way, I have
to wave the white flag...it can't be killed. Since then I bought the kit
with the single motor but dual bases (fixed/plunge and about $150 on E-bay).
Suggest you check that out before you spring for a stand-alone 690 (probably
about $90 wherever you look???).
Not familiar with the Delta jointer you mention but if it is the bench-top
universal motor type, unless you have some space problems save your money
and get a real one.

I like what you're thinking. I like the hand wheels on my Jet, but the
deals you're looking at with the Grizzly and Delta tools would easily have
swayed me, when I was deciding. If you don't have a small router, go with
the Delta and the PC690. I don't see how you can go wrong.

My local BORG has the Rigid 6" for $349 right now. I used to own one
of those and it worked nicely. I replaced it with a DJ-20. I made a
lot of nice stuff with the Ridgid and saw no functional difference
between it, the Delta 6", or the Jet 6".

Woohoo!!!
A 690 and the Griz sounds like a nice way to go.

A jointer makes woodworking easier. Wood makes woodworking
possible (with or without a jointer). Get yourself some good wood!
