Looking for stop hinges in Phoenix...any ideas?

Hi all,

Anyone in the Phoenix, AZ area know where to find small box hinges
that stop at a fixed position, e.g. 95 degrees?

Trips to the local usual suspects (Woodworker's Source, Rockler)
uncovered a lot of hinges, but not a single one that stops at 95
degrees.

I can order some from Lee Valley, but that'll take at least a week.
I'm trying to finish a project for a friend by this weekend, so if
possible I need to find something local.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

PQ

Ain't much in Tucson in the way of stop hinges, either. Woodcraft had one or
two, then mysteriously didn't. Mailorder away.. Tom
Someday, it'll all be over....

I did try HD, though not Lowe's. No luck there, nor at a specialty
hardware place at 15th Street & Camelback. It seems (so far, anyways)
as though it's just not something that anyone ever wants, given the
total absence of it on shelves. Strange, I always thought they'd be
almost as common as standard hinges.

Thanks, those are good suggestions. I did try an Ace nearby, and
JoAnne's. Struck out both places, but there's a Paul's Ace not too far
from here - I'll try that later today. Michael's is a very good idea,
and there's one not too terribly far away, so I'll try them as well.
Unfortunately there's no Lowe's nearby - the closest one is 15 or 20
miles.

I developed a 'Plan B' that involves using a standard non-stop hinge
and a thin fabric cord (obtained from JoAnne) to use as a lid stay.
It's not the design I wanted but it'll work. So, if all else fails
I'll go that direction.

But I'm still mystified as to why this wouldn't be a much more common
item, especially at a place like Rockler that carries a lot of
hardware. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to stock up on Lee Valley
hardware or something, so that next time I'm a bit more prepared. Lee
Valley have never let me down - they're just so damn far away that
it's a pain to go to them for something so simple - especially when
there's not a lot of time available to wait.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions!

Actually, Rockler didn't have any on display at the store - I pored
through the hinge section for at least half an hour. But I probably
could have asked and should have. At the time I just assumed that if
they didn't have 'em, my next stop would. Dumb, especially if it turns
out they have 'em in the back or something.

I was at Clyde Hardware the other day and no dice there either. I
really expected that a hardware specialty store would have them. I
even called Clyde in advance and asked for them specifically, but I
think whomever I spoke to must have thought I just meant regular
hinges. They've certainly got plenty of those. No stop hinges though.

As for WoodCraft, it's my understanding that the Tempe Woodcraft
closed up shop some time ago (not sure when). That leaves the
WoodCrafts in Tucson as the only ones in the State. Is it just me, or
is it strange that Tucson has two of them but the entire Phoenix Metro
area has none?

I ended up going with my plan B out of desperation (standard hinge and
a fabric cord for a stay). It'll work out okay, I think. I'll just
stock up on the little 95 degree bastards next time I see them in
person or order from Lee Valley.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions - great to know that there are
other Phoenicians on the 'Wreck".

You know when you are all done with this project, every place you go will
have those darn hinges...on sale! Some sort of Murphy's Law thing, I guess.

Always good to have a 'Plan B'. I sometimes have to go with 'Plan D or E'

Rockler has the little suckers in their catalog:
http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/search_results.cfm?filter=stop+hinge&submit.x=1
2&submit.y=13
But they don't stock them in the store? You weren't talking to "the new
guy" at Rockler, were you?
Armed with their cat. #, call the store and see if they can check the
computer inventory to see if there are some hiding in the backroom.

Call Lee (or Rockler) and have them overnight the to you. You've already
invested a ton of time & gas trying to find them locally. Not to mention
the ageravation.

Here is a place I found on the web: http://www.clydehardware.com/ They are
at 4808 N. 15th St, PHX

Missed the OP, but got the gist your looking for 95 degree stop hinges.
Where you at? I got about 10 or 12 or more, several different sizes. If your
close, probably not, you can pick them up and pay me back later, if your in
that much of a need for them.

Woodcraft carries them, at least on their website:

Some of the Ace Hdwe stores seem to have a wider line of products than
others. Maybe one of them would have what you need. I am in the east
Mesa/AJ area and though I know where several Ace's are out this way. There
are several Paul's Ace Hardware in the PHX area. The one over on Broadway
in Tempe has a very good stock of hardware. Lenhard's Ace in DT Mesa has
all hardware and no housewares. Can't help you much with the rest of the
valley. I think there is a Lowe's up about I-17 & Thunderbird, next to the
FRY'S ELECTRONICS?

My SWMBO suggests you check Michael's and also Joann Fabric's & Crafts They
have some small hardware, hinges, hasps etc. Worth a try.

Have you checked HD and Lowe's? They have a fair stock of higher grade
specialty hardware. You might get lucky.
