I won an auction for a new DW708 on Ebay. The gorillas at UPS did their best
to beat the peanuts out of the box during shipment. Upon delivery, I made
the delivery guy stand around while I performed an inspection and finding no
problems with the unit, I signed.
With some minor adjustements, the saw worked great. However, the first time
I released the bevel lock via the hand screw, I noticed some play where the
bevel assembly attaches to the saw base/table (i.e. the slide/blade/motor
assembly rocks back somewhat). Looking a bit further, it appears that the
long bevel lock threaded shaft was somehow bent during shipping (imagine
*that*). The other night, I unscrewed and removed the bevel lock and tried
to remove the entire bevel/slide ass'y to inspect it but was unable to
remove it. Tried emailing Dewalt and they were no help. I'm wondering if
there is something else that I need to unscrew/remove in order to remove the
entire assembly or if it is jammed due to the bent shaft.
The saw is a version 4. I downloaded the exploded view from Dewalt's website
but I couldn't find anything suggesting why I could not remove the slide
assembly. Since I bought it from Ebay, warranty is nil and the seller
insists that I take it up with UPS (which from my experience, is more
trouble than just fixing the damn thing).
If anyone has any experience with this saw, please help!
Thanks a bujillion,
Jimmy
