Hi,
I was thinking about making the workbench in this issue of Fine
Woodworking's Tools & Shops magazine. Has anyone completed this project?
Anyone in the middle of building it now? If so, I'm curious how it is going
and what you think it will ultimately cost to make.
I'm thinking of getting started on the base this coming weekend.
Thanks,
Bill
am building a bench using a combination of that top on the base in the
American Woodworker. Both are modified somewhat, took some elements from
both and some online sources. I always deviate from a good plan.

I have started it. But I'm building it out of doug fir, as I'm
concerned about the cost as I've never done a mortise/tenon joint and
this is my practice run.
It seems rather beefy, and cutting 2-1/2" mortises is a beeeaaatch.
Guess I've got to get better chisels. But it seems like it'll be
rather easy to keep going to completion, and nice and heavy, anyway.
