I'm intrigued with the idea of building a wood clock, but reluctant to
get involved in making gear wheels that will function?
I have the plans and know what materials to use, it's just a concern
about the mechanics and how it might turn out. Ever try it? Your
experience? Please advise.

Thanks! It was a fun technical design project. Since I cut the aprons for
the drawer fronts I had to figure out something to hold everything together.
My wife loves it and keeps her good silverware and cloth napkins in drawers.

nice "homemade" table like that one!! She don't like it, ship it

I have a book which I have seen frequently at Books-A-Million, Barnes &
Noble and Waldenbooks. Taunton Press. Book's not at hand, so I can't give
the exact title, but there's a picture of a wooden clock on the cover. It
has pretty complete looking plans, but I've never actually been brave
enough to try to build one of these things.

I've been contemplating this for years, but I'm fearful of spending a lot of
time making parts that just won't work.
I probably still don't have the gumption to do it, but I'm glad you did. I
hope the OP builds one too. Wooden clocks seem like a seriously cool
concept.

I built the Clock Mechanics 'Gift Clock' from their plans as my first
project on a scroll saw. Turned out very nicely. I too had my doubts about
cutting gear teeth freehand and after assembling and running the clock for a
few days I did decide to re-cut one of the gears. As of now it is working
beautifully. Give it a try!!!
