Bay Area Dave revealed?

Is Bay Area Dave a troll. Notice that he does not provide any personal info, useful woodworking advice, or anything constructive. He is quite a controversial character.

I was going to try to respond along the same line, and then read your

I'll just say "ditto"

Had you checked Google, which I suppose would be a first, you'd have
seen that I was trying to put your mind at ease about NN, or someone

Well, not as such...There was only 1 person who bought a LA smooth plane
from us in the Bay Area that day, with the first name "Dave"....

Debated posting my note, for reasons of confidentiality, but it didn't
contain anything "new" - other than the confirmation he was telling the
truth...can't stand by and watch someone gettin' unjustly slimed...

Aside to B.A.D - let me know if you have any questions about it - my email's
public, and yours would be treated as confidential...

Back in the days when I was a finishing supplier, I occasionally received
orders from, let's say, some of the more *colorful* personalities on
rec.norm. It was then I discovered the true art of diplomacy. I was also
amazed at how tolerant I became of someone when they were sending me their
hard-earned money for my stuff. It was humbling, to say the least.

I have never believed Dave to be a troll. I have my own opinions of his
rec.norm behavior, which I seem to type-out in excess, but likely as not,
he's probably nothing like the "personality" (tmSC) we encounter here on the
newsgroup.

I mean, he can't be, can he?

Believe it or not, I once won a spelling bee. My skills have clearly
eroded.

"Deferential: affected or ingratiating regard for another's wishes."

An example of this occurred a good many years ago when I received a
music box (among some other things) from Lee Valley/Veritas. The
machinery must have had just a cubic hair of spring left in it,
because when I opened the box, the teeth of the drum had moved and
become entangled in the packing film. I was able to loosen some
screws and safely free the teeth/tines from the packaging.

I called Rob's customer service people, as a courtesy, so that someone
less adept (man o man are those music boxes fiddly!) and less patient
would not encounter the same small glitch in shipping. They were most
appreciative for the information, and promptly refunded the shipping
on the entire order. This was totally unexpected.

Though I haven't had the opportunity lately, I will always return to
Lee-Valley when considering a new item of tool-porn.

Regards,
O'Deen

p.s. I scored one of Rob's super-nice low-angle block planes at a
flea market, about two years ago. It had a teensy scuff onnit. $10.
That was a score!
