dewalt dw706 miter saw question

my sister(about 120 mi away at the time -no internet connection) called me
with a question about the new mitersaw they bought (930pm local time) There
is a "u" section bracket (guard) that hangs below the blade . It is rubbing
on the blade . I assume that is not the intended purpose of the guard. I
went to the dewalt website to look at the exploded view of the saw. Turns
out the part is called out as the "guard, rear" Looks to be made out of
sheetmetal. I asked her if it looked like a sheet or cast metal part before
I suggested that she bend the offending arm for a bit of clearence from the
blade. She couldn't tell the difference. Anyone who has a saw know if it is
indeed bendable? Thanks Pat

It must be bendable as it is bent. Easy to fix. You just take it back to
the store and get another.

That was the first thing I mentioned- take off the blade.... she's gonna
get another one- they're driving the thing up to her from chula vista to
victemvill socal... The guys at the store said not to use the thing (after
she already had....(sigh) Pat

I hope she didn't use channel locks on top of a couple of the
carbide teeth. <cringe>

She lives in the REAL Fort Stinkin' Desert, does she? Condolences
to the poor lass.

If she can't tell the difference between cast and sheet metal,
make sure she doesn't pry against the blade to bend the guard
or she could bend/warp the blade.

Well, unless she -wants- a 3/4" wobble dado...
