Differences between delta jointers and planers

No, not the difference between a jointer and a planer ;-)

Delta has three 6" jointers in the $450-$550 range - models JT360,
37-195 and 37-275X (the X5 model). As far as I can tell from the
specs, they're about the same in terms of capacity, motor, bed length,
etc. Anyone aware of specific differences, or have a recommendation
of one over the others?

Same for 12"-13" Delta planers - $400 model 22-580, $300 model TP400LS
and $200 model TP300. Similar in terms of cutterhead speed, motor
size and capacity. Model 22-580 has a few minor additional features
(blade zero indicator, 2 speeds). Specific opinions?

All the prices are from Amazon. Are there cheaper places online?

Thanks,
Michael

The JT360 is an open stand version. The fence is a T-style that you have to
push and pull. I is the same as the old 37-190, just a new name.

The 37-275X is the new version of the 37-195. Both have a T-style fence but
with a rack and pinion so it can be moved in and out with the crack of the
knob. The 37-275X has a 5 year warrenty. Both are closed base.

All of th X-5 items are also manufactured in the USA as opposed to China
with a lot of their other equipment currently.

The (newish) 13" planer is a really nice planer for the money with a lot of
fairly useful features including the cutterhead lock that has not sniped
once on me

The X-5 has a longer warranty. One of the other models is an open base
IIRC.

The chepaer models are lighter weight and 12" capacity as opposed to the 13"
of the 580. The 580 uses disposable blades that are easy to change and
indexed so you just lay them in place. I've not used the other models, but
I do like the 580.

Amazon is not always the cheapest. I've beat their prices at the local
dealers and get better service and assistance. They do things like point out
the differences in the models and then let make make my decision. The Delta
planer was on sale at Woodcraft for $300 not long ago.

For some good prices look at www.wilkemach.com Even with the freight they
are cheaper than the Delta jointer.
