Threaded rod into precast steps

Folks,

I would like to attach a garden structure to the sides of a precast
stair unit.

Dose anyone know if you can drill as I can in any other concrete? Any
gotchas?

Thanks!

The drill bit will stop turning instantly, the drill motor will not stop so
fast. DAMHIKT

You might try checking with the manufacturer, if possible, to determine the
location of the reinforcing steel and try to stay at least 1.5-inches awy
from it.

Drilling in precast stairs typically has some structural implications, you
might not be aware of. The manufactureres engineer should be able to give
you guidance.

Thank you very much for the advice and taking the time to read and
understand my poorly worded post. <G>

Sometimes, I need to slow down...

I have no idea who the manufacturer would be, the stairs are 15 years
old. This is a 2 step unit, I didn't realize there would be rebar
inside. I'd like to insert two to three 1/4-3/8" inserts & bolts in
each side, near ground level.

What would happen if I hit some rebar while drilling?

Thanks!

I do not know if *I* can drill as (well) as *you*, but in my
experience have never had differneces between drilling into concrete
that was cast "on the spot" or in concrete that came in prefabricated
units (which were the most common instances of concrete pieces that I
drilled holes into).
