electrolytic rust removal

I know this has been covered here before, but I can't find the
responses...

In electrolytic rust removal, can the battery-charger clamps be
submerged in the solution - or just the object to be cleaned and the
sacrificial anode?

Yes. Although if something is pretty dirty to start with, you might
find that they're robbing current from the piece you're trying to
clean.

Don't submerge the anode clamp. You'll strip the plating off the clip,
corrode the copper wire leading to it, and they may fall apart.
