they would rather push their weight around here to shun
those that don't "fit in". I find them uniformly PATHETIC
in that they exhibit the scurrilously bad behavior favored
by your typical lynch mob. Get them one and one and they
start crying for their buddies.

The point you and perhaps BAD have missed is I, for one, have never attacked

You know there's almost always a grain of truth to...... Oh forget it. I've

Hi Dave,
I haven't read most of the squabbles you've had with Tom, but I
remember coming across a statement or two like this from you earlier,
and I'm curious about it.
Neither have I read all of Tom's posts, but those I have easily
convinced me of an exceptionally literate personality, with a decent
grasp not merely of literature but of appropriating the _bon mot_.
I couldn't tell you whether he's a _vir bonus_, but that he's _dicendi
peritus_ (from Cato's determination of what makes a great
orator/statesman) makes him one of the more gifted writers on this
NG--at least so it seems to me.
What makes you think he's not a good writer? Have you saved the
instances where he wrote something that made you think otherwise, and
can you share them with me? I'm at a loss to see why you have judged
his writing thus.

vir bonus, dicendi peritus: Latin, originally by Cato, indicating an
ideal orator, preserved by Quintilian in the _Institutio Oratorio_,
perhaps the most influential rhetorical text from the ancient
Classical world. It's a dense phrase, so a bit hard to translate
meaningfully. Literally, it would be something like "a good man,
experienced in speaking", but every word, except perhaps "vir/man",
has nuance that resonates from earlier rhetorical, philosophical and
legal traditions.

For anyone reading this thread who thinks the above treatment 'harsh',
consider
how difficult it can be to get consensus on Usenet, and how many regulars
approved this thread (normally, herding cats would
be simpler than polarising opinion in the wreck).
Then, please - at the least - do a little research and review
some of the threads and posts of the troll in question. Note that a number
of 'supporters' of the troll have suddenly appeared from nowhere (not *all*
of
them, a few are genuine).
A brief synopsis of the troll:
Began shortly after a major attack (Perry's dog dying thread)
More than 5700 posts between Dec 2002 and Jun 2004.
316 per month, most in diatribes against others.
Regular attacks on newbies
Regular attacks on regulars, in fact, these were actively targeted.
Denies the obvious when caught.
Refuses to answer when caught in lies.
Refuses to answer when caught slandering.
When the OP posted this, there was a sudden outburst of sockpuppets,
accompanied by an error in the trolls munged email address, indicating
recent changes.
These are not unsubstantiated claims, they are factual and easily confirmed
by Google. The troll will continue to claim "black as white", so please - do
a little research for yourself before bringing the troll back for the rest
of us. Make your own decision, by all means, but consider what has
occurred to get us, collectively, to this point.
We can now expect a host of posts from the troll under various guises and
pretending to be others so, before responding, please consider this
likelihood and refuse to be drawn into "baited" posts. These posts will not
necessarily appear to be from the troll himself, causing in-fighting and
dissention is the trolls
aim - who actually *does* the fighting is irrelevant.
It will take a while, but we'll win out eventually.

Hi! Tom IS a good writer. I just had to work his name into
the post quickly so I could spread a little cheer his way.
He is DEFINITELY a good writer; too bad he uses his talent
in a "bad" manner <g>. We just don't get along due to a
long history of mutual dislike. Sorry you didn't know the
reason for my post. I don't elucidate a lot. I try to keep
my posts reasonably short.

I reached the boiling point with BAD long before Tom did. I'm not
nearly the patient and well-mannered gent that Tom seems to be. I figure,
if someone as thoughtful and articulate as Tom has been driven over the
edge by the incessant spew from Mr. D. W. Anderson, things have sunk to a
new low.
Tom has offered help and knowledge to everyone who asked, for years
now. He has a lifetime of cabinetmaking experience, and an understanding
of classical design that informs his work and advice (advise, Keith). He
doesn't respond to every last thread, but he certainly could, and with
cogent, useful advice.
BAD's woodworking knowledge and skills, on the other hand, are about
a foot wide and a micron deep. Yet he sticks his unedited, unpunctuated,
and usually uninformed remarks into more discussions than any six other
contributors here. When combined with his incessant off-topic blather, his
presence here is not unlike that of a turd in a punchbowl.
Count me in.

Are you kidding? The guy (assuming it's a guy) is prolly sitting in
front of his computer diddling himself over all of this attention and
here you are adding Spanish Fly ointment to the mix. Every usenet
group/www discussion board/etc has at least one attention whore and a
public shunning of them has never worked. It only serves to
strengthen their delusions of martyrdom and gets them more horny for
attention.

"B*y Urea D*v*" <[email protected]> puked out:...

*MORE* evidence you mean? *MORE* evidence that you will ignore and refuse to
reply to? Ok, one final time.
First, now that you're predictably abusive response has arrived, I'll point
out that I have not yet signed up to ignore you in this thread - check my
previous post.
Second, there's not enough pixels to list *all* of your lies, abuse and
slander, but here's a start:
5db9cf808abec7dafe5190f06%40news.teranews.com&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fas_q%3Dl

oodworking%26lr%3D%26hl%3Den>
Third, you recently claimed to have killfiled me
<http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&c2coff=1&threadm=Ltorc.2
070%24Lr5.216%40newssvr27.news.prodigy.com&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fas_q%3Dplon

_uauthors%3Dbay%2520area%2520dave%2520%26lr%3D%26hl%3Den>
- it seems that is just another lie.
Whatever insults you care to hurl now, do as I (and others) have done, and
reference them to give them some credibility, then at least once in nearly
6000 posts we can say you supported your lies and slander with something
approximating a fact.
NOW I am happy to say I am done with you. You can change identities all you
want, but you've busted your identity RECON TROLL - your done here.

As I had not been aware of this particular development, I DAGS on "Scott Abraham" and found the following link:
http://www.menweb.org/gagorder.htm
So, if the situation piques your interest as it did mine, this might be a starting point you can use to research the incident. Be
aware that the specific link seems to me to be much more editorializing than objective reporting.

Well, I am no expert, but I have found the Freud WWII blade to work
wonderfully in my TS. Maybe your fence is not adjusted correctly? What
sort of fence is it? Typically the problem is that the back of the fence
