how tight is enough?

When making elongated bolt holes to allow for tabletop expansion, how
"tight" do you twist the bolt? Just sung, slight snug, tight, tight as you
can, what?

i always go just tight enough so the nut will stay on, and the top doesnt
move while you're using it.
