Is there no way to set this gauge for angles in less than five degree
increments?

The Incra V27 is indexed at 5 degree increments (plus 22.5 deg), but it
can be set at in-between angles just like any conventional miter gauge.

Dick,

I was looking at this same gauge as a replacement for my Craftsman stock
gauge and was impressed with the quality but no so impressed with the
flexibility. I often need to cut odd angles and this gauge will NOT cut
anything other than angles in 5 degree increments. The higher priced Incra
models will. Not sure what they were thinking other than to add a low cost
gauge to their line that does basic angles.

The only way i can see of doing that is to use some other kind of angle
gauge device preset to the angle you want, and then set the V27 miter gauge
using that.

Can't find any on the V27. There is no such thing on my version at least.

True but I can't find any way of setting those angles accurately except with
the use of a *separate* angle-setting device preset to the odd angle you
require.
There seems to be no way of settings these angles accurately using the
actual miter gauge itself.

No problem on mine on initial adjustment. While they didn't move freely,
they didn't require a lot of force to turn. I didn't feel there was any
chance of stripping them on mine at least.

Hey Dean,

I have a question. The little disks along the bar, on mine
the Allen head screws are teenie tiny which is fine and
dandy but I just about have to put a Johnson bar on the
wrench to adjust them which given the teenie tinyness of the
wrench makes me wonder how close I am to stripping the hex
out of the screw head. Not to mention you have to bear
against it like you're prying open Al Capone's vault which
doesn't exactly lend itself to being very precise.

This has really put me off this miter (miter David) gage
(gauge David). That and the fact that I had to remove the
head and file off some burrs (QC work after I'd given the
company my hard earned cash) before the face would 90 itself
to the table.

Anyways, I was wondering what adjustment on your's was like.

UA100, who expected better after hearing all the glowing
praise...

There should be if you look closely. The pointer is left outside the
vee slot and the tall knob is tightened to hold the angle. At least
that's how my Miter 1000 works.

Yes the V27 can be set at any degree.... However it is NOT indexed
at every degree....

Years ago when I went looking for a very good Miter guage I purchased
an Incra 2000 simply because it was fully indexed....

Now after all these years I have to say... that I make 99 percent of
my cuts at either the 45 degree setting or the 22.5 degree setting...
Very very rare for me to need to make a odd angle miter...

So if effect I PAID my money to purchase a feature that I use very
little.... I should have bought a V8 (oh I should say a V27)
Looks to me you did the opposite...since you did not spend your money
purchasing the features that you needed...

We both screwed up.

But if you ran a check on the archives in this newsgroup you will
notice that I have said time and trime again that I find no fault with
the accuracy of the 2000 I do find it way too heavy, and way too
bulky to use on a everyday basis... so it sits on the wall almost all
the time...

Somewhere in this tread a mention was made of setting the guage up to
work in either miter slot... I know my 200o be switched...but again in
all theyes years I never found a need to ...its set up for the left
hand slot and has stayed that way...

If the original poster was local to me... I would sit down over a beer
and work out a trade with him... Then we both would be happy...
