Much of the information is extracted from National Security Archives and US
Government Documents.
Depleted Uranium armourments were sold by Defense Contractors to the
Pentagon during the Bush, Sr. era,
even though documentation by US scientists leading as far back as 1943
warned of the hazards of it's use.
DU weapons were first deployed in Desert Storm on January 17, 1991 - which
was authorized by
Security Council Resolution 678 and President Bush, Sr.
International Law restricts the use of DU munitions as in violation of the
Geneva convention.
Done a lot of digging on the subject over the past 10 years, and if you want
sources, do your own research.
The statistics quoted are at the low end of the range of completed studies,
with the exception of
the 65% effected GI's who were exposed rate which was a quote from Major
Doug Rokke; who was in charge of DU 'damage control' for the US Army; and
independent studies of Veterans refused treatment for leukemias and other
radiation related symptoms.
Proponents - the current US Government.
Opponents - the World in general, including Germany, France, Australia,
Canada - and
now the British, who were swept along by admonishments by the US that DU was
safe and
assisted in dumping tons of this crap on civilian populations.
And I think we are all aware how the the British tend to kowtow to the US -
at least intitally.
The Pentagon has refused to acknowledge the hazards of DU, and continues to
whitewash the growing body
of evidence and scientific community opposition.
And isn't it odd how even Aljazeera was suddenly stripped of all DU related
information subsequent to US control. This current clan is the clumsiest
bunch of wanna-be propagandists I've ever seen.
Leading Scientists in Opposition include:
Dr. Chris Busby, British radiation expert,
Fellow of the University of Liverpool in the Faculty of Medicine and
UK representative on the European Committee on Radiation Risk,
talks of the best-kept secret of this war: the fact that by illegally using
hundreds
of tons of depleted uranium (DU) against Iraq, Britain and America have
gravely
endangered not only the Iraqis but the whole world.
Leuren Moret, former Lawrence Berkeley Lab and Lawrence Livermore Lab
scientist,
now working with a group of independent scientists called the Radiation and
Public Health Project
