MAGNETIC LINEAR ACCELERATOR - GAUSS RIFLE

http://scitoys.com/scitoys/scitoys/magnets/gauss.html And, yes, it does
use wood.

Been looking for free plans to make something like this, that will
shoot BBs. Prefer not to shell out $20+ for plans, without knowing
something about them. Got a bag dog coming around, and I need something
that'll put out shot after shot, either semi-auto, or full-auto, so I
can pop him in the rear a few times. I figure 2-3 times of that, and he
wont bother anymore.

And, no, I don't intend on hurting the dog. A BB gun won't give a
dog a wound, but will sure as Hell make them pay attention.

So, if anyone's got a link to free plans, I'd appreciate it. Or,
if you've made one from pay plans, I'd like to know how it turned out,
because I'm open to buying pans, if I figure they're good.

I used to have a BB machine gun many years ago. It was butt simple
with only 1 moving part and used a can of R12 for the power source.
The mfg did offer an adapter to use compressed air but in the '70's
R12 was cheap and you didn't need any steenkin' hose.

The thing worked quite well and never jammed. It would spew
BBs at about 4-5 per second rate and had a range of about 50'.
The range would drop off quickly during a long burst as the R12
can got cold and its pressure dropped. This shouldn't be an issue
with a pressurized air feed and the range could be greater depending
on how high a pressure you design the thing for.

The core unit was basically a hollow chamber that could take x lbs
of pressure and had 3 ports.
1. The BB fill port with a screw on cap.
2. The BB exit port, a tube attached at the top which channeled
the BB's to the barrel. There was a slight funnel shaped entrance
to this tube, the widest part was small enough that 2 BBs would
not fit.
3. The freon/air entry. This was a dip tube which extended to the
bottom of the chamber.

In operation the entering gas from the dip tube stirred up the BB's
into a cloud and they then entered the exit tube. The trigger was
connected to a valve on the gas feed tube.

This should be enough info to get your creative juices flowing.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I had one of those too. And, thought it sucked. Admitted, a
BB gun doesn't have a lot of range, but 40 or 50 feet just sucks.

The dog is usually about 40-50 feet away, when I first see it. In
trees. Right now, I'm using a single cock BB pistol, that holds about
50 BBs. Cock it, it pushes the back open, and positions a BB, you push
the back closed with your thumb, and shoot, repeat. I go out of the
house with it cocked, and if I see him, can get off one hurried shot
with him in the so-called clear. Been missing so far, and yes I can
shoot, but were talking at about 40-50 feet, and moving, with brush and
trees. The pistol has an extreme range of maybe 150-200 feet. If you
really elevated it, possibly it would go close to 300, but with no
accuracy.

I don't need anything more powerful, or at least not a lot more,
and this would probably be accurate enough, if I could get a good shot
in. Which pretty well kills the was bullet idea, because too hard to
get a clear, accurate shot. I wouldn't consider plastic bullets. So,
what I'm looking for is something at least semi-automatic, preferably
full automatic. If I can get a hail of BBs moving toward him, I would
be able to pop him.

I've considered one of the sami-auto BB pistols or fifles, that use
the little CO2 cartridges, but I don't care for those a heap. The ones
I had in the past would work OK, but if you left a punctured cartridge
in them, they'd leak down. I do recall one tho, that punctured the
cartridge by way of a hinged grip panel. Set the cartridge in place,
then just snap the panel shut when you wanted to shoot.

That's one option, trying to find one of those. Or, I've found a
guy that will sell plans for an airpowered BB submachine gun, for about
$10. Just hook up a compressor, or air tank, and go to it. I'm
thinking I'm going to get a set of those.

And, for the whatever's out there, I'm not out to kill, or damagee,
the dog. If I wanted to damage it, I've got a pellet rifle that would
do that, and you'll notice I haven't spoken of that. And, if I wanted
to kil it, a scoped .22, with subsonic ammunition would do just fine,
but you'll notice I haven't made that an option either.

I just want the SOB to stop coming around.

Hmm, tomorrow I think I'll go to Wally Woirld and see if they've
got new surgical rubber for my slingshot. A pouch full of BBs. Hmmm.
Could be.

That depends on a number of factors. It is entriely possible to
penetrate the skin with a BB-Gun, especially one you made yourself.

But I expect you'll be careful. An option used by a friend was
a real gun with plastic bullets that had only a primer, no
powder. Evidently they were inteded for indoor target practice
vs paper targets.

I used a regular BB gun, but only pumped it once, not enough to break the
skin.

I've done a lot of basement target shooting with my .38 and
primer-powered wax "bullets".

I just drill out the primer hole larer than normal (and these cases
are NEVER to be used with powder again!), seat a primer, then press
the open mouth of the case into about 1/2 inch of wax.

I get pretty good accuracy out to about 25 feet, and the barrel
self-cleans the next time you fire a regular round through it, though
you want to check for "duds" possibly obstructing the barrell after
each basement session is over.

Collect the wax bullets, melt 'em down, and use 'em again.
